Piepers Plunder Report

A fine Saturday greeted Bendigo University athletes for the running of the Piepers Plunder at the Strathfieldsaye end of Wildflower Drive. The undulating two lap Alan-East marked course proved a good challenge for runners in the 8km long course.
It was the in-form first year athlete, Navec Lorkin that won the 8km race and made it her second victory of the year. Lorkin complete the dual lap circuit in a time of 39.49 ahead of the young Maddy Evely who ran strongly to finished second in a time of 36.38. Another athlete who has had numerous placing’s in the past few weeks is Jenny Jones and she added another one to the resume by running a time of 37.59 to finish third. Andy Buchanan continued his good season by running fastest time in 29.26 and is coming into some good form for the National titles to be run on NSW’s Central Coast in late August.
Runners who completed the 4km circuit only had to do one lap of the tough course. Scott Roberts ran strongly off his mark to win in a time of 19.53. Young gun Rielly Walsh had a great race to set a good pace over the course and ran into second place in a time of 21.12. Third and fastest time went to Lee McCullagh in 15.52.
It was a great day for the Roberts family with Brayden joining father Scott in the winners circle. Brayden raced clear in the 1km course to win in 4.48 ahead of Lachlan Walsh in second place in a time of 4.50. Harry Wright ran on well to finish third in 4.47. Jake Russell scorched around the course in 3.32 to just nudge out Tom Houlden (3.35) for fastest time honours.
Next weeks racing will be the Landry Lope which will be run at Lockwood South. To get there: travel out Lockwood Road from Kangaroo Flat and Landry Track is on your right. Look for the BU sign. The Justin Lee and Ben McDermid-marked course will take runners across a challenging 7.5km course. 1km and 3km races will also be run on the day.
