Rifle Range Rattle Report (13/6/09)
June 14, 2009
Bendigo University members travelled out to Junortoun for the running of the Rifle Range Rattle on Saturday. On a cold day, that saw many runners reluctant to take off their warm gear prior to starting, a field of 49 attacked the 8.0km Kevin and Frances Walsh-marked course.
It was David Heislers who ran a great race from the middle of the field to come home triumphant in the 8km race in a time of 39.52. First time runner Jason Fletcher powered through the field to run a quick 30.20 and finish in 2nd position. Luck Ruck continued her strong form to record consecutive 3rd placings after a great run in last weeks Diamond Hill Dash. Again it was Andy Buchanan with fastest time, cruising around the course in a time of 29.00.
The 3.4km course saw the experienced Julie Hogan win in her first race for the year, in a time of 20.38. Young Noah Walsh completed the course with ease to come in 2nd in 17.26 and it was Angela Slattery who rounded out the placings to finish 3rd. In another fantastic run, Maddy Evely’s great winter season form continued, running a time of 13.45 to be fastest.
Oscar Pearce opened his account for the season in fine form by winning the 1km race with a time of 5.24. Next across the line was Dylan Evans in 5.13 and it was Lucinda Terry who held off a number of fellow competitors to finish 3rd in 6.16. Harry Jackel marked a great day by winning his first fastest time ribbon, running a fine time of 5.01.
Next weeks racing will be the Pearces Road Rally which will be a sealed handicap event and all runners will start off scratch. To get there: travel out Mandurang Road and continue until Nankervis Road. Turn right at Nankervis Road and then left into Pearces Road. The distances for the day will include 1km, 3.6km and an undulating 7.5km layout.
This Saturday night, the club will also be having a mid-year night out at the One Tree Hill hotel. Contact Wolf Heiden on 54431684 if you plan to attend.
