THE Bendigo University Athletic Clubs cross country season begins this Saturday with its College Classic. The College Classic, to be raced over distances of 5km, 2km, 1km and 500m, will be the first of 22 cross country events between this Saturday and September 12, when the season wraps up with the annual Half Marathon at Epsom. The club, which this year will be led by new president Wolf Heiden, has more than 80 members, with competitors ranging from as young as pre-school to those in their 70s. We run on a handicap system, so it doesnt matter if you run fast or slow, club vice-president Frances Walsh said yesterday. Being a handicap system, its good for everyone, and were a very sociable club. Runners must register for runs by 1.45pm on race day, with the first run to start at 2pm sharp.
