Cedar Drive Dash (9/5/09) Report

Fine weather greeted another large field of athletes in the third event of the Bendigo University Athletics Club’s 2009 Cross Country season, the Cedar Drive Dash. The 7km event saw Jody Pickering run strongly around the course to post her first victory of the season in a time of 35.57. Stewart Scoble ran second in 31.25 and long time member John Brewin finished third in a time of 32.53. Michael Bieleny powered around the 7km course to be fastest in 25.22.

Rachael Thomas ran very well to take line honours in the 3km course in a time of 14.02. Joel Gundry finished second in 12.41 and Max Vlaemick ran on to finish third. Young gun Tom Houlden collected fastest in a slick time of 11.49.

In the 1km event it was Nelly Rose who won in a time of 6.31. Jake Thomas ran well to finish second in 4.08 and Rachael Thomas added to her victory in the 3km event with a third placing in a time of 4.12. Nick Moloney ran a great race to be fastest in 3.39.

Next Saturday will be the running of the Fusion Physiotherapy BU Invitation at LaTrobe University Bendigo Campus. The event looks set to attract another strong field of local athletes. The 7.5km and 4km races will start together at 2.00pm with the junior races of 1km and 2km preceding the main race. Registration will be taken from 1.30pm.
