BU Invitation 2009 Preview

May 15, 2009

This Saturday will be the running of the Bendigo University Athletic Club’s Invitation to be held at LaTrobe University’s Bendigo campus.

The feature race, which kicks off at 2.00pm, is the Fusion Physiotherapy 7.5km which will be run on a challenging circuit. The event will start at the University and run out the gates up Edwards Road up towards One Tree Hill, athletes then turn left into Pioneer Track and wind their way through the bush and back onto Johnstone Road and back up the finishing straight into the University.

The event which annually draws some of the best distance runners from around Bendigo will again see a strong field compete. BU clubmates Andy Buchanan and Tim McCullagh will be among the top contenders to take out the main race. With both boys having been in strong form so far representing Bendigo Region’s Division 1 men’s team in Athletics Victoria competition, they will be looking to post some quick times on the undulating course.

Fusion Physiotherapy are also the sponsor of the 4km event, which will be started simultaneously with the 7.5km event. The 4km race, which avoids most of the hills that are present in the longer course will see runners compete on an out and back course. Previously there have been some very quick times posted on this course and this year should provide no exceptions.

The junior races, Tammy Davis Podiatry 2km and Orthopaedic Appliances 1km have historically been hotly contested and will provide some entertaining racing. These events will take place at the conclusion of the main race and will feature two and one laps of the University’s internal roads respectively.

Registration for the day will be taken from 1.15pm and participants are encouraged to arrive early. New runners are welcome and membership forms will be available on the day.
